For most municipal employees, there is a minimum retirement eligibility age, not to exceed your Social Security Normal Retirement Age (SSNRA). Based on your retirement schedule, your retirement age may differ. Your schedule is determined by the date you were hired and the number of years of service you had at certain points in time.
Here are the retirement schedules for Public Safety municipal employees:
- PF 25 Schedule 5: members from RIGL Standard 25 and out plans with 25 years of service or at least age 55 with 10 years of contributory service by June 30, 2012 are eligible to retire.
- PF 20 Schedule 6: members from RIGL Standard 20 and out plans with 20 years of service by June 30, 2012 are eligible to retire
- PF Schedule 7: members in plans with Special Provisions who are eligible to retire by June 30, 2012. Specific plans are Cranston Police, Cranston Fire, South Kingstown Police, Hopkinton Police, Richmond Police, and Burrillville Police.
- PF 25 Schedule 8: members from RIGL Standard 25 and out plans active as of July 1, 2012 and not eligible to retire as of 6/30/2012. They may retire at age 50 with 25 years of total service or any age with 27 years of service. Members with between 5 and 25 years of service may retire at their SSNRA.
- PF 20 Schedule 9: members from RIGL Standard 20 and out plans active as of July 1, 2012 and not eligible to retire as of 6/30/2012. They may retire at age 50 with 25 years of total service or any age with 27 years of service. Members with between 5 and 25 years of service may retire at their SSNRA.
- PF Schedule 10: members in plans with Special Provisions active as of July 1, 2012 and not eligible to retire by June 30, 2012. They may retire at age 50 with 25 years of total service or any age with 27 years of service. Members with between 5 and 25 years of service may retire at their SSNRA. Specific plans are Cranston Police, Cranston Fire, South Kingstown Police, Hopkinton Police, Richmond Police, and Burrillville Police.
- PF Schedule 11: all newly hired members on or after July 1, 2012. They may retire at age 50 with 25 years of total service or any age with 27 years of service. Members with between 5 and 25 years of service may retire at their SSNRA.
