Used to verify and purchase time during which you were officially laid off from your position. Purchasable within 3 years of return from layoff. (1 year purchase limit)
Used to verify and purchase time during which you were on official leave from your position (such as medical, maternity, and sabbatical). Purchasable within 3 years of the conclusion of leave. To purchase credit for time worked as a teacher in a state other than Rhode Island. Purchasable within the first 3 years of initial hire. (5 year purchase limit)
To purchase credit for time worked as a part-time teacher and were not eligible for membership in the System. Purchasable within the first 3 years of initial hire. (5 year purchase limit)
To purchase credit for service time in the Peace Corps. Purchasable within the first 3 years of initial hire. (4 year purchase limit, combined with Teacher Corps and VISTA)

To purchase credit for time worked as a private school teacher within the State of Rhode Island. Purchasable within the first 3 years of initial hire. (5 year purchase limit)
To purchase credit for time during which you worked and contributed, but later took a refund of your contributions to the retirement system. This type of purchase is also called a Restoration of Service Credit. Purchasable after 1 year of service and within the first 3 years of initial rehire.
