Retirement Board Election
April 24, 2019: Employees' Retirement System of Rhode Island is holding an election to fill two open positions on the Retirement Board. All retiree members and active teachers of the retirement system as of April 19, 2019 are eligible to run as and/or vote for a candidate.
ERSRI is overseen by a 15-member Board chosen in accordance with Title 36 of the Rhode Island General Laws. Board members serve as trustees with fiduciary responsibility over all aspects of the system i.e., financial, administrative, policy, etc.
The elected members will complete the terms of Marcia Reback and William Finelli, who recently resigned their seats. The members elected to the seats will be sworn in at the July 10, 2019 meeting and are expected to serve through March 2020.
Nomination papers will be available beginning on April 30, 2019 and must be completed and returned by May 20, 2019.
Members who are interested in becoming a candidate must notify ERSRI by obtaining nomination papers in person at the ERSRI Office, 50 Service Avenue (2nd floor), Warwick, RI 02886.
Retiree candidates must secure 100 valid signatures from eligible retiree members and active teacher candidates must secure 100 valid signatures from active teachers.
Completed nomination papers must be returned to ERSRI before 4:00 p.m. on May 20, 2019. Signatures will be verified by the ERSRI Sub-Committee on Elections. Candidates will be notified in writing of their qualification or failure to qualify for the ballot and the reason why.
Members who are eligible to vote will receive ballots by mail after June 3, 2019. Ballots must be returned in the self-addressed envelope provided and be postmarked by June 25, 2019.
